What connections are possible without our bodies in the way? In this workshop we will explore the generative possibilities of digital space for performance makers, the ways in which it should not be treated as a second-best space, but a space all of its own. Through conversation and a participatory Google Docs performance, we will ask how fundamental performance questions of consent, autonomy, spectacle, and narrative can be approached digitally in ways that are impossible in live theatre, as well as the transformative possibilities of emotionally hacking online work spaces into places for play, fiction, and connection. Join us and approach the screen with delight instead of dread.

We Quit Theatre is a Winnipeg-based performance collective made up of Dasha Plett and Gislina Patterson. We Quit Theatre has toured 805-4821 to Buddies in Bad Times, SummerWorks (where it won the Buddies in Bad Times Award for Performance and Innovation), PushOFF, Théâtre Catapulte, and OFFTA. In 2021 they digitally premiered their new work i am your spaniel, or, A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare by Gislina Patterson at LOMAA, after development at the Stratford Festival Lab and the SummerWorks Lab. We Quit Theatre’s short film, Men Explain Things to Us… And We Like It! was featured on Stratfest@Home, and is now being adapted into a live talk show through a Prairie Theatre Exchange commission. Their most recent project, Passion Play, is available as a short collection of improvised erotic biblical revisions through their instagram, @wequittheatre.
